Each year Eagle Ridge Academy holds a door decorating contest prior to Winter Break. For the 2017-18 school year, the theme was The Beauty of Language. We took this opportunity to celebrate the beautiful books we had read over the year thus far and highlight all the rich vocabulary we had learned.
While there is a contest involved, what I love about this yearly tradition is that it provides a challenge that helps us celebrate the learning and hard work of the students. It may be a hallway display, but expectations are high and students are thrilled to rise up and show all they know. To add to our Tree of Learning, students needed to define a word in their own words, showing that they truly understood the meaning. For the other portion of our celebration of language, we took books that we had read so far this year and categorized them into books that mainly demonstrated truth, beauty, or goodness. Students then wrote to the respective chosen prompt and explained how they saw beauty or goodness in a book of their choice we had read. All students then wrote about a non-fiction book full of truth and the facts they had learned.
I was so proud of the students' perseverance and thoughtful responses. It was a challenge, especially for having only been in formal school for a matter of months. But they rose to the challenge with excitement and joy and turned out absolutely beautiful work! I am so proud! Congratulations, scholars!

Each year, Eagle Ridge has a door decorating contest and this year, we were the proud recipients of the award! Students decided that they wanted to share their pillar songs with the school, so we went to work tracing the words, creating carolers singing the songs, and recording ourselves singing each song. Your children also got a CD with the songs to help them learn each and every song! the students are very proud of their work! Here is a picture below if you are unable to pop by and see our door!

Meet Mrs. Toso
Hello families! My name is Mrs. Toso and I am thrilled to be your child's Kindergarten teacher. I have been in classical education for many years and find a School of Grammar classroom to be the most joyful place! Hopefully your children feel the same way! I feel so privileged to be part of your child's introduction to education and hope to instill in them an awe and wonder of learning and a life-long desire to learn and to continually search for and acknowledge the truth, beauty, and goodness that surrounds us. Here are a few of my favorite things: Archives |
